7+ Workshops and Mock Exams
At Mumsinthewood, we understand how important the 7+ entrance exam is for families aiming for selective independent schools. We also know how much pressure and anxiety the 7+ journey can put on the whole family. Especially given that some children are still only 6 years old when they take the exam. That’s why we’re proud to offer focused, supportive workshops designed to prepare children with the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to excel.
Workshops
Our 7+ workshops are structured to:

Build confidence: Through guided practice, children grow more comfortable with exam-style questions and timed conditions.

Target key skills: We focus on comprehension strategies, creative writing techniques, mental maths fluency, and problem-solving.

Foster exam readiness: Mock papers and small-group settings help replicate the exam environment, reducing nerves and improving performance.

Identify areas for improvement: Each child receives tailored feedback so that families can support learning between sessions.
Workshop Format
Our workshops are designed in small groups to ensure individual attention. They include the following:
English – Comprehension strategies, Creative Story Wrting, Vocabulary, Spelling and Grammar, Dictation and Other Writing skills
Maths – Times Tables, Addition and Subtraction, Money, Time, Fractions, Word Problems, Measurements, Simple Geometry, Simple Algebra, Area and Perimeter and more
Reasoning – Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning
After 4 days of preparation, we will have a mock exam on the Friday in the morning and Interview Preparation in the afternoon,
We also offer 1:1 preparation options for families seeking a bespoke learning plan.
When to Start Preparing
While every child progresses differently, we recommend beginning preparation as early as possible but we do understand that sometimes the best laid plans may not quite work out and you may make a sudden decision to sit the exam. Whether you have prepared for the last year or whether you have only just thought about starting, Mumsinthewood are here and happy to help you and your child navigate the exams, activity days and/or interviews.

The Maths Workshop will include the Non-Verbal Reasoning Component and the English Workshop will include the Verbal Reasoning Component.
